Disney English
Disney has been publishing children's books and developing English language learning materials for more than 70 years. Drawing upon this knowledge and working with a highly regarded academic board, Disney developed the Disney English Immersive Storytelling Approach to learning English. In China, since 2009, Disney English has opened a number of schools in major cities. Working with its network of worldwide publishers, Disney has begun an extensive publishing program to produce learning materials for the schools and for parents to use at home to help their children learn English.
Disney English selected SD-X and Publications International as its interactive, audio-enhanced publisher in 2010. This partnership led to the fall 2011 launch of a six-book set of SDX-enabled books, sold boxed with a special Disney English branded reader pen. Each book concentrates on one Disney English learning themes and the Disney character group associated with that theme:
- Let’s Count: Mickey Mouse and Friends
- Toy Story: My Toys
- Animals All Around: The Jungle Book
- Colors: Winnie the Pooh
- Playtime: The Aristocats
- Friendly Phrases: Lady and the Tramp
The book set launches in Spanish-speaking Latin America in fall 2011. The packaging and parents’ guide are in Spanish, but all the spoken content and songs are in English. When the product launches in other countries, only print elements will need to be translated. The audio will remain the same. This will allow the book set to be published in smaller markets than would otherwise be possible.
